Now I really regret not bringing my birding camera/lens. I wasn't planning to do bird watching this time around - but there are just a lot birds to find without even trying. This one was solitary, feeding on our ricefield in Malandayon, Malinao, Aklan. (In fact, when another egret-like bird flew in, it fought it - it was very territorial!) I thought it was a cattle egret BUT it was alone (cattle egrets usually are in flocks) and seeing that it had black beak, I thought it was something else. I was right, the Wildbird Club of the Philippines website told me that this is a little egret, Egretta garzetta, a common migrant with black bill, black legs and yellow feet. It raised its foot just a little bit to make me correctly identify its being.
